TITLE 1

What is Title I?

Title I is a federally funded program that provides supplemental help in math and/or reading to students who qualify.  Our Title I program will provide your child with extra educational assistance beyond the regular classroom.  Our focus is to help students succeed in the classroom and reach grade level performance.

How does our school receive Title I money?

The federal government provides funding to each state.  Then, our state sends this money to school districts.  The amount of money each school receives is determined by the number of low-income students attending that school.  Students do NOT have to be from low-income families to receive Title I services.

How does my child qualify for Title I?

Students qualify for Title I primarily through reading and math assessments:

  • STAR CAT (Computer-Adaptive Test)
  • STAR CBM (Curriculum Based Measures)
  • MCA (Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment)

What instruction will my child receive in the Title I program?

Your child’s instructional plan is based on the results of their:

  • universal screening test results
  • diagnostic survey results
  • progress monitoring reports

Students will receive individual and/or small group instruction in the Title I classroom.  The amount of sessions and time per week varies for each student.  We can further discuss your child’s instructional plan during parent-teacher conferences.

Will my child always be in the Title I Program?

No. We progress monitor Title students approximately every 6 weeks.  Each student is dismissed from the program once he/she reaches appropriate growth/mastery levels.

When will my child receive this extra instruction from the Title I Program?

Your child will receive Title instruction during regular school hours.  We will not pull your child during whole-group math or reading instructional time.

How can I support my child in the Title I Program?

Studies show that student success increases when parents become readily involved in their child’s education.  Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.  Also, you are welcome to visit during parent-teacher conferences, which are held in the fall and spring.

Thank you for taking an active interest in your child’s education!
